Soya Chunks Pulao

Hi Friends....
Sometimes we all get bore with same dal and roti ......we need a change either rice or pasta or something chinese.
This time I made soya chunks pulao instead of regular veggies pulao or peas pulao ...
Soya is rich source of protein, good for all age groups :-) You can use soya in granule form too....

Ingredients:

2 cups basmati rice
3 tbsp ghee
1 tsp  cumin seeds
2-3 cloves
1" cinnamon stick
1 bay leaf
2 big onions (finely sliced)
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1 big tomato (finely chopped)
1/2 tbsp garam masala
1/4 tsp red chilly powder
1/2 tbsp coriander powder
salt to taste
1 cup dried soya chunks
2 cups water
Garnish fresh coriander leaves (finely chopped)

Method :
  • Wash and soak rice in water for 30 mins.
  • Wash and boil soya chunks in salted water till they become soft, squeeze extra amount of water and keep them aside.
  • Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed vessel. Add  cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon stick and bay leaf, cook till the jeera splutters. Add the sliced onions and ginger garlic paste. Saute till onions turn pink.
  • Add tomato and cook on medium heat till oil separates. Add salt and all other dry masalas. Mix well
  • Add the cooked soya chunks and cook for 2-3 mins .
  • Add rice and mix well. Add water and cook on low flame till rice are cooked and water dries up. ( You can cook this in pressure cooker too just give 2 whistles and remove from fire)
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  • Serve with veggie raita or green chutney.

Note: You can add chopped veggies too (beans, carrot, cauliflower, peas)

  7. Sounds very flavorful to me :) I have always avoided soya because of its bland taste!! But this seems like a good idea :)
